Jim and
Sylvia Parish
Blythe, Ontario
We have been milking goats since 1998.
Prior to that we milked about 25 cows. With the rising
quota prices and the layout of our barn, expanding
wasn’t an option at the time. We felt milking goats was
a better alternative and have never regretted it. We are
currently milking about 450 goats, with plans to
possibly expand in the future. Our son David is home
full time with us and our youngest son, Jaimie is home
part time. ODGC has sponsored a dairy goat virtual on
the internet, so you can visit our farm online at

1997 with a mix of Saanen and Toggenberg goats, since
gravitating to Saanen. The naturally ventilated pole structure

parallel parlor, milk house and housing for 200 goats. All feed
is purchased with hay stored off site in a rented building. Milk
is shipped to Mornington Dairy in Millbank. |

Capri-Ville Dairy - The Huber
Family
Gowanstown, Ontario
We started milking goats in 1996. In 2003 we started
taking all kids we could catch immediately at birth to a
rented barn in an effort to eradicate CAE and CL. In
2004 we bought another farm, moved our CAE free herd in
there and sold the infected herd.
We have kept doing tests to ensure we are free of
CAE, CL, and infectious mastitis. We have been pleased
with the results as well as production which has
continued to climb especially since we got a very good
nutritionist, Srdjan Nesic from New-Life Mills. |

Clayton and Sharon Kuepfer and Family
Poole, Ontario In 2004,
Clayton and his family decided to make a change on their
farm. A change was needed from there sow to early wean
operation and milking goats seemed to be a good industry
to invest in. Clayton set out to renovate the bank barn
and create a functional dairy operation with in the
current building. Clayton started out buying a 110 head
herd of milking goats already in production. Over the
years he has grown the herd to 150 head, and now has
young stock that allows him to cull within the herd and
market additional offspring. The next goal is to improve
production and grow the herd to 200 head. Clayton and
family are a great example of making the best out of
what you already have. |

Krista's Boer Goat Ranch
- Krista Kremer
Scotland,Ontario
I started in the Boer goat business in
March 2004, with 13 purebred does and 1 buck. My herd
consists of mostly purebred Boer and now also some
crossbreds. Currently I have about 66 goats, which are
all housed in a new cover-all barn on my parents farm. I
do not show my animals. My goal is to produce high
quality purebred for breeding stock and fast growing
commercial goats for meat production. |
